Company of Valor
The following links are recordings made in 1983, by Jim McEnery, Author "Scoop" Adams, Moe Darcy, Thurman Miller, and Dick Tweedy. These audio recordings document many of the experiences of the men of K company, 3rd battalion, 5th marine regiment, of the 1st Marine Division on the island of Guadalcanal August 7, 1942 - February 1943. One of the men who served with these men was my grandfather Lonnie Whittington. This interview was a large part of the source work for my next book "Tempestuous." These recordings take a while to listen to, but it is well worth it, these men gave part of their lives to ensure our freedoms, and sadly they are all gone now from my grandfather who prematurely died in 1977, to Mr. Thurman Miller who recently passed away, don't be lazy, listen to these interviews, and I will tell you now, listen to them a few times, because that's what it takes to learn the history recorded here.
